Use Case
After adding Gmail account via IMAP, Outlook starts Synchronization process which never ends.
Solution

1. File > Options > Advanced > Send / Receive
2. For IMAP accounts set "Download headers for subscribed folders" (under "Receive mail items" checkbox)
